Officials in the Village of Hempstead say enforcement of the law is not currently a priority.

Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck tells News 12 she will meet with the city’s police department to discuss next steps. The Garden City Police Department is also reviewing the new law.

In response to a request for comment, Nassau Deputy County Executive for Public Safety Tatum Fox wrote:

“The Nassau County Police Department has an outstanding relationship with all law enforcement agencies including village police departments. Law enforcement professionals typically do not engage in selective enforcement unless ordered to do so by their political leaders.”
