It’s the start of summer vacation for students in New York City’s public schools.
Kids who spoke to News 12 at their dismissal were excited to kick off their summer vacation – and the city’s leaders are already looking to get ahead for next year’s curriculum.
Starting this fall, Mayor Eric Adams and NYC Schools Chancellor David Banks are getting ready to unveil DIAL, which stands for Division of Inclusive and Accessible Learning. The program will focus on supporting multilingual students and children’s disabilities.
A new math initiative called NYC Solves is also coming to the city’s public schools – it’ll focus on math concepts that are encountered in everyday life.
“I feel like it’ll be better to help them learn… understand to communicate with things that’s going on in life, whether it’s helping them grow as a person or to see more and elevate them in life,” said Jermaine Dawkins, older brother to a Bronx student.
The mayor says that DIAL will have a $750 million for this new curriculum and that 1,300 staff members will be assigned to expand these programs.
