Though the hot temperatures haven’t arrived yet, the Town of Hempstead’s pool at Veterans Memorial Park in East Meadow had a good-sized crowd on Monday.

Fran Rosen said she’s been coming to the pool for more than 40 years. She started bringing her daughter when she was a newborn and now says she runs after her grandchildren.

At P.C. Richard and Son in New Hyde Park, Joseph Ruggiero said there’s been an uptick in people looking to purchase air conditioning units.

Nassau County and the Town of Hempstead are opening cooling centers to give residents a respite from the heat, and hours will be extended at Nickerson Beach, as well as at Town of Hempstead beaches and pools beginning Wednesday,
