Authorities say a Queens man drowned off Long Beach while he was fishing on Sunday.

Dozens of emergency crews converged on the beach off of Monroe Boulevard to rescue the victim.

Officials identified the victim as 67-year-old Dihou Liu, of Elmhurst.

They say he was on the rocks when he slipped and fell into the water.

Liu was rushed to Mount Sinai South Nassau in Oceanside where he was pronounced dead.

Witness Matt Murnane says his friends raced into the water to help Liu after he slipped off the rocks.

"One of the guys took his clothes off but the water was too cold. They were trying to cast the fishing line to pull him in. We couldn't get it then he turned over," Murnane recalled.

First responders had arrived within three minutes after getting the emergency call at 11 a.m. on Monroe Boulevard.

Officials say the victim was pulled out of the water in less than 8 minutes.

First responders then immediately began to preform CPR.

Officials warned the public to stay out of the water, and off the rocks since there are no lifeguards on duty until the summer.
