Storm aftermath: Floodwaters trap Freeport residents in their homes
Families in Freeport stood on their front porches unable to leave their homes on Miller Avenue after Saturday's high tide submerged their street for blocks.
Like many parts of the South Shore, residents in Freeport woke up Saturday to flooded backyards, flooded basements and streets.

Many motorists on Merrick Road drove with caution through Freeport's business district. Further west in Island Park, neighbors on Washington Avenue also experienced flooding.
Frustrated South Shore residents are pleading for local leaders to step in and help.
Town of Hempstead Spokesperson Greg Blower said in a statement, "Many South Shore neighbors have been affected by the recent flooding. We are working closely with state and federal officials to secure funding and alleviate these concerns."
