Kind-hearted contractor builds new room for boys with medical conditions

Jimmy Pannullo spends much of his time working with his hands, but the builder also has a big heart. Pannullo’s latest project was at the Massapequa Park home of 5-year-old Anthony D’Alessandro and his 4-year-old brother Jon. Here's how he helped out.

Jimmy Pannullo spends much of his time working with his hands. But the builder also has a big heart.

Pannullo runs E&F General Contracting in Franklin Square. He also has an organization called “Be a Kidd,” which provides free home improvement services to families with chronically ill children.

Pannullo’s latest project was at the Massapequa Park home of 5-year-old Anthony D’Alessandro. Anthony has alopecia, which causes extreme hair loss. His mother started “Operation Hat Drop” to collect hats for her son and boost his confidence. The family received more than 1,500 hats from friends, neighbors and complete strangers. But they had nowhere to put them.

Pannullo suggested building floating shelves in the bedroom Anthony shares with his 4-year-old brother Jon, who was born with a rare heart defect. So instead of just building shelves, Pannullo did a complete makeover of the boys’ bedroom, complete with bunk beds.
