Kids got to learn about the meaning of Kwanzaa and honor African American culture and heritage at the Long Island Children's Museum Thursday.

The young visitors created a Mkeka, which is a traditional straw mat used on the table during Kwanzaa, and a beaded ear of corn.

Kwanzaa occurs on the seven days after Christmas from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1. Each day is dedicated to a principle that observers reflect on and celebrate.
