A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning while attempting to cross High Ridge Road in Stamford, police say.

News 12 Connecticut’s Angelica Toruno spoke with Stamford police who said Cesar Cabrera-Guzman, 48, of Stamford, was fatally struck by a 2012 Chevy Suburban around 7 a.m.

First responders and law enforcement were on scene and attempted life-saving measures.

Police said the driver is a 58-year-old Wilton resident who remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

"We're still working on the dynamics of the case. We do actually have a couple witnesses,” said Sgt. Jeffrey Booth, of the Stamford Police Department. “One of them, our police lieutenant, was on the way down and did CPR on the victim."

Cabrera-Guzman was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital from injuries sustained during the crash.

The incident caused slowdowns on High Ridge Road as police investigated.

Stamford police said the investigation is active and open. They are asking anyone with information to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at 203-977-4712.

This is the sixth fatal motor vehicle accident of the year in Stamford. It is also the second fatal pedestrian car accident in Stamford in the last month – a 74-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run on Nov. 21. Police said Marie Jean-Charles was crossing the southbound side of West Main Street near Alvord Lane when she was hit by a car in the eastbound lane. She died on the scene.
