The Half Hollow Hills Board of Education is continuing its talks with the community about whether armed guards would be stationed at every school in the district.

The stepped-up security could cost upwards of $1 million a year.

The plan would include an armed guard in an unmarked vehicle at the perimeter of the property during school hours. District representatives say the armed guards would only go into a school in the event of an armed intruder.

News 12’s Thema Ponton was at Paumanok Elementary School in Dix Hills where a security company is giving a presentation for members of the community about the services they can provide.
