People are stepping up across Long Island to bring hot meals to those in need this Thanksgiving.

At the Massapequa Firehouse, there was a massive volunteer operation underway on Wednesday.

Hundreds of people volunteered for Carroll’s Kitchen Long Island, which partnered with Bellmore Kiwanis to host a meal distribution.

In total, 15,000 meals are going out to Long Islanders in need.

Carroll's Kitchen Long Island CEO and founder Ryan Carroll says, "There's a lot of people on Long Island that are lonely and in need of food, so we are making sure we can bring meals to them."

The food was being loaded onto trucks and headed to homeless shelters, soup kitchens and the homes of veterans through Thanksgiving Day.
