Oral arguments began Wednesday in a court case that could reshape the state’s congressional map.

The New York Court of Appeals is hearing a case challenging the districts as they were drawn for the 2022 election, when Republicans swept Long Island’s four main congressional seats.

Democrats argue the 2022 map was meant to be temporary and should be thrown out.

The map was drawn by an independent expert, after the court ruled a previous map had been gerrymandered by Democrats.

The court’s decision in this case could help determine the balance of power in the United States House of Representatives.
