Residents and parents in Freeport attended a school board meeting Wednesday at New Visions Elementary School.

It comes two weeks after police say a student used a box cutter to slash a 14-year-old student in the hallway.

The school says they checked students for weapons the next day, but parents are calling for more security on sight.

The superintendent tells News 12 that the district is exploring ways to enhance security systems and protocols, adding that there are strategies in place to address the root cause of the violent incidents.
