Veteran uses experience in Navy to help in teaching career

John Heeg is a social studies teacher at Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park. Before that, he enlisted as a hospital corpsman.
He says his experiences in the military have helped in his education career.
"It's definitely given me another set of eyes - kind of get an idea of what that younger person was like going through in World War I or World War II," Heeg says.
He says he has been able to get the best out of life because being a teacher has been a dream job. He says he didn't realize, but his other dream job was being a hospital corpsman.
