The town of Riverhead has dropped a proposal to ban backyard roosters and roadside egg stands on residential properties.

The town previously said that new restrictions would ensure domesticated fowl "do not adversely impact the neighborhood."

The proposed code amendment would have limited the number of hens a person can have on their property to 10.

Following neighbors' complaints, the town says it will no longer pursue the code change.
