The Art League Of Long Island needs the community's help to reopen after water damage during last month's rainstorm forced them to close.

Executive director Marianne Della Croce says the current closure hurts many in the community.

"To lose this gem right now is causing a lot of people a lot of heartache,” she said.

The nonprofit faced challenges staying open during the pandemic but continues to persevere through challenges to be a place for artists to learn and grow.

"This is the premiere location for Long Island artists at any level to be able to either start their artistic journey as children or as adults as beginners,” said Della Croce.

The flooding from last month's heavy rainstorm damaged just about every part of the building on the upper and lower floor.

"Our educational classes, all of the studios have had mediation work done. Our gallery has also had the same work done. We've also had to pull up the floors on the first and second floor,” she said.

All nine of their studios and some murals on the walls were damaged as well.

The cleanup costs could total up to $500,000.

All of their classes have been moved to other spaces in the area and events planned over the next few months have been postponed.

Della Croce remains hopeful, even in the face of a major cleanup,

"[It’s been] really a difficult pill to swallow, but I have great hope that we're going to be back stronger than ever hopefully at the turn of the New Year,” she said.
