Hawaiian lei maker in Brooklyn raises funds for family devastated by Maui wildfire
A lei maker from Hawaii has been helping raise funds for a family back home left devastated after a massive wildfire destroyed part of Maui last month.

A lei maker from Hawaii has been helping raise funds for a family back home left devastated after a massive wildfire destroyed part of Maui last month.
Gina Kananipua, of Oahu, traveled to Brooklyn for a workshop to teach others how to make leis, smudge wands and other colorful Hawaiian items.
Kananipua tells News 12 that the family from Lahaina lost their home and a loved one.

"I'm amazed that people in New Jersey as well as New York really care about Hawaii. It makes us feel really seen and appreciated,” says Kananipua.
So far, over $2,000 has been raised through the sale of the green leis and the workshops. All profits will go directly to the family.
