Steve Guttenberg is sharing the story of his career with the new autobiographical comedy “Tales from the Guttenberg Bible.Guttenberg is known for his many leading Hollywood roles throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s including “Diner”, “Cocoon” and “Police Academy."

His new play features 90 characters and just four actors. Guttenberg says the comedy is an entertaining depiction of his road to success.

“This is a story that is actually about my life, about when I left Massapequa Plain High School at 17, three days after graduating high school, and I went out to Hollywood to try my hand at being an actor. It's a wonderful story that gives you hope and a feeling that anything's possible,” he said.

Guttenberg says his religious identity is a big part of the production.

“Being Jewish is a great part of this show. Being an actor who's Jewish, it's not the typical movie star. The typical movie star is Brad Pitt or George Clooney or someone like Clark Gable in the old days,” he said.

Guttenberg says that Long Island residents can expect to see a little of themselves in his life story.

“I hope you come out to the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor to see this play about a kid from Long Island who made it in this world and brought with him all these Long Island values. Family, staying together, friendships, kindness, ambition, confidence and good values,” he said.

“Tales from the Guttenberg Bible” is playing at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor until Aug. 27.
