One Long Islander is headed to the big leagues! Medford's Josh Knoth was drafted in the first round by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Knoth is the first high school player on Long Island to get drafted in the first round since 1971.

He says he got the call from his agent about 10 minutes before the pick was announced.

"I just couldn't stop smiling, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face," Knoth says. "I knew it was coming and even then, like my heart was just beating. 'Like, Oh my God, is this really happening?' My dream's coming true right now."

Knoth was named a second-team All-American by Baseball America magazine.

He was also Suffolk County's player of the year, giving up five hits all season.

The Patchogue-Medford High School graduate has been playing in Medford since he was 9. His varsity baseball coach, Anthony Frascogna, watched him grow throughout his high school career.

"He just dedicated himself. I'm just happy to be a part of the process," Frascogna says.

Several youth players also watched the draft live and said they were excited to hear a name they recognized called in the first round.

"He's just like one of the greatest players that I've met," one player said. "I hope he does really well over all throughout his whole career."
