A Long Island woman shared her emotional journey with breast cancer Tuesday through a documentary that premiered in Bellmore.

Christina Mathesion-Segura, of Bethpage, says she decided to make a personal documentary about her illness to set an example for others diagnosed with cancer.

She was diagnosed in November 2020 and says she was "scared to death."

"I decided that every other woman must be too, and I needed to document my journey for the women who come behind us, so that they can see that somebody went through this and they're OK and they'll be OK too," Mathesion-Segura says.

In the documentary called "You'll Be OK Too," Mathesion-Segura recorded videos of herself talking about her experience with chemotherapy, surgery and all the emotions that came with her battle with breast cancer.

The hour-long documentary also includes interviews with other local breast cancer survivors.

She says the goal is to show and tell other people battling cancer that it's OK to be scared, anxious and not know where to go for emotion support.

"There's nothing you can't do if you put your mind to it, cancer or nothing," Mathesion-Segura says. "Sometimes people are like, 'Oh well, it's not a nice day, it's raining,' Get a real problem, you know, that's nothing, straighten up and let's go."

Mathesion-Segura says she is now cancer-free and healthy.

The documentary is now available for everyone to see online.

Mathesion-Segura also set up a nonprofit organization to encourage early screening and testing along with a place to go for support.
