Blakeman: Nassau County evaluating whether Christopher Morley Park pool is worth saving
The county executive says the main problem is low attendance in recent years.

Nassau County officials say the pool at Christopher Morley Park will not be opening next week for the start of the summer season and its future remains uncertain.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman says they are "reevaluating" whether or not to make the capital investment it would take to eventually reopen the pool.
"If we don't, we will find another attraction to take its place," Blakeman says. "It may be some of these spray pads that seem to be very popular with younger kids."
Summer camps typically use the pools at the Roslyn park, but Blakeman says it is in need of extensive repairs and regular daily maintenance is expensive.
The county executive says the main problem is low attendance in recent years, especially during the 2022 summer season. He says there were only approximately 1,000 trips to the pool all summer.
Sean Johnson, of New Hyde Park, is disappointed that a place that has many memories for him will potentially not come back.
"I definitely think it's going to take an impact on the community," Johnson says. "I know I have a lot of friends that come here and now they have kids and they come here."
Some parkgoers also say they think the county should try to find the budget to renovate the pools at Christopher Morley Park.
