Police tell News 12 a man has died and another person was seriously hurt after a crash in Smithtown.

The incident happened Thursday around 9:30 p.m.

Police say Michael Bittleman, of East Northport, was driving a Nissan down Middle Country Road near Highway Place when the car crossed into the other side of the road. That is when it hit a Mercedes head-on driving the opposite way, police say.

Police say Bittleman died at the hospital.

The driver of the Mercedes, 63-year-old John Zeumer of St. James, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
