The community of Oyster Bay is taking a trip back in time.

A replica of a historic oyster dredge named Ida May returned to the waters on Wednesday.

The original boat was in the water for 75 years, harvesting oysters since 1925.

Officials say Ida May "will follow Oyster Sloop CHRISTEEN's path as a floating classroom for education programs, teaching children and adults alike about the history and ecology of Oyster Bay."

The deck of the vessel will also reportedly serve as a venue for educational programming, public cruises and private charters.

A celebration of Ida May's launch will be held at Cooper Bluff in Oyster Bay on Thursday, May 4. More information can be found here
