Two men are accused of stealing holiday tips meant for sanitation workers in Suffolk County.
Police say 50-year-old Michael Heafy, of Patchogue, and 44-year-old Christopher Schmidt, of Selden, swiped an envelope with tip money from a garbage can on Louis Kossuth Avenue in Bohemia in broad daylight.
The men were arrested after police say a 911 caller reported seeing the suspects take the money. When police responded, they say the suspects were spotted in a vehicle matching the description provided by the caller.
Heafy and Schmidt are charged with petty larceny. Police say they are investigating whether the duo has stolen tips from other locations.
