2 officers injured after arresting alleged shoplifter in Westbury

Two officers were injured after they tried to take an alleged shoplifter into custody.
The incident happened at a Walmart in Nassau County just before 3 p.m. Monday.
Security guards called about a man stealing items from the Walmart on Old Country Road in Westbury.
They say when officers caught up with the suspect there was a struggle, and two officers suffered minor injuries.
Officials say they arrested 46-year-old Clifford Gavin, of Queens.
Gavin is charged with assault, grand larceny, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
