Two men were shot to death hours apart in Hempstead, police say.
The first shooting happened at around 11 p.m. Friday. Police say 30-year-old Gerraud Hill, of Malverne, was shot at least once in front of a home on Chase Street.
Hill then got into a Chevrolet Traverse and drove for about half a mile. He hit a parked car, and then crashed into a home on Rose Street. Hill was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No one inside the Rose Street home was injured, although officials say the structure was damaged.
Hours later, at around 4:45 a.m. Saturday, police say Victor Benitez, 28, was fatally shot in front of a deli on Clinton Street across town. That shooting was captured on surveillance video.
Police are also investigating another deadly shooting that happened earlier this week in Hempstead. In that case, a man was fatally shot as he drove a vehicle. The driver in that case crashed into bleachers on a middle school field, injuring three children.
There is no word on whether police believe the shootings may be related.
Anyone with information on the homicides is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
