2 men arrested in string of Nassau burglaries
Police responding to an alarm at a Garden City gas station Saturday arrested two men who allegedly carried out a string of burglaries in Nassau last week.
Garden City police officers responded to an alarm call at a Mobil gas station on Franklin Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday morning. They spotted a broken window at the gas station, and found suspect Jermaine Clemmons, 35, of Roosevelt, inside the store. They say Clemmons attempted to flee, but was apprehended and arrested.
Another suspect, identified as 49-year-old Hempstead resident Stephen Hudson, was arrested by officers as he tried to walk away from the scene.
Detectives say an investigation revealed that Clemmons carried out six additional burglaries or attempted burglaries last week, and Hudson was allegedly involved in two of them.
Police say the other burglaries targeted the Smoke Shop on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square on April 10; J&J Auto Shop on New Hyde Park Road in Franklin Square on April 10; Woodfield Deli & Grocery on Woodfield Road in West Hempstead on April 8; Milk Farm Deli on North Central Avenue in Valley Stream on April 9; and Auto Fix Mobile Gas Station on Franklin Avenue in Garden City on April 9. An attempted burglary was also carried out on April 7 at Brothers Deli on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead.
Clemmons is being charged with six counts of third-degree burglary, one count of attempted burglary, and criminal possesion of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. Hudson is being charged with three counts of third-degree burglary.
