Fire officials say a construction accident at a private home in Huntington Station left one worker dead.

According to officials, work was being done at 1 Crabapple Court. They say one of the workers was trapped after a portion of a retaining wall collapsed.

Fire officials say the unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The homeowner, who was not home at the time, tells News 12 that she hired a crew to build an outside entrance to her basement. She says she was looking to create a place to relax and recover from the surgery that she underwent two days ago.

OSHA says it will investigate the cause of the fatal mishap.
