Smithtown hires new garbage carting company after abrupt end by old one

Posted: Updated:

Officials will be adopting a resolution to ensure curbside trash and recycling pickups in Smithtown following an abrupt termination of service.

The garbage carting company Quick-Way Sanitation abruptly pulled out of its multi-year agreements with both the Town of Smithtown and the Town of Brookhaven.

Officials say they received an e-mail from the company terminating services on Tuesday morning, but they've already selected another vendor to take over the routes.

Smithtown is now investigating possible breach of contract, and Brookhaven officials say they intend to pursue legal options.

So far officials at Quick-Way has not commented.
