Lido Beach residents know their South Shore community is prone to floods. The weekend storm is expected to bring rain that could be torrential at times.
Residents hope a program to build dunes along the shoreline will help prevent issues.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen says the town is ready. "We've been working hand in hand with the Army Corps of Engineers to address erosion on our beaches," she says. "They've been doing beach restoration, they've created new barriers, jetties, to mitigate the effects of erosion, and we've had new dune placement and refurbished some do the dunes there."
In Lindenhurst, resident say their streets often flood during storms, so they are forced to move their cars to higher areas.
