Officials say they want they want to make sure construction jobs for the new Islanders arena at Belmont Park go to Long Islanders.
The 19,000-seat arena is expected to cost $1 billion.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen and local labor leaders called on the developers to keep the jobs close to home.
The Islanders' owner is expected to break ground on the new arena in May.
