Doctors in Connecticut are warning people to choose their home improvement projects carefully so that they don't end up in the emergency room amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Lisa Lattanza at Yale New Haven Health says her ER has been busy with overambitious people looking to improve their home. She says she's seen power tool injuries, a chainsaw injury and several broken bones.

The hospital asks people to avoid dangerous activities with the acronym, HURT - high-risk sports and power tools, uneven surfaces, roofs and high places and tree removal.

She says that for patients who come in due to those types of injuries, doctors and nurses use up personal protective gear that should be used for someone with COVID-19.

The urgent care clinic at Yale New Haven Health will reopen from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily starting Tuesday.
