It's Women's History Month and News 12 is highlighting a Brooklyn woman who's dedicated a nearly two-decade career toward creating resources for victims of domestic and gender-based violence.

"I'd love it if no one encountered violence. I'd love it if no one encountered a moment of fear. I'd love it if no one felt unsafe in their home," says Natasha Johnson, executive director of the North Brooklyn Coalition Against Family Violence.

Helping victims of domestic and gender-based violence is a cause that is near and dear to Johnson.

"It's part of what my purpose is. It's uniquely aligned with all the things that I've been preparing for individually and professionally and so it feels like the right time to be here," says Johnson.

An activist, educator, attorney, and so much more, Johnson has devoted nearly 20 years to creating resources for victims in need. She says her will to impact those victims came while working for a domestic violence hotline in college.

She took matters into her own hands using that frustration to create programs to combat domestic violence and even helped write laws to prevent human-trafficking.

She now continues to make a difference, as the executive director of North Brooklyn Coalition Against Family Violence leading the movement to ending domestic and gender-based violence in the community.

"My only goal at this point is really to just think about how I can leave the environments that I encounter better than they were when I met them," she says.
