White Plains home inspector on new HGTV show shares tips every homebuyer should know

The competitive housing market in the Hudson Valley is leading many first-time homebuyers to skip essential home inspections.
A White Plains home inspector is shining a spotlight on the issue as he becomes HGTV's newest rising show.
"Home Inspector Joe" is sharing his tip every homebuyer should know.
Sniffing out costly hidden home repairs is what Joe Mazza does best, because buying a house in the Hudson Valley is competitive and expensive.
"Here, now a lot of sellers they are saying you have to wave the home inspection, and I hear that and I say, 'You are out of your mind,"' says Mazza.
It's that renegade attitude that's propelled the Westchester native into the national spotlight, landing the White Plains man his own show on HGTV that premiered this week.
Mazza says it all started with his Instagram account that garnered thousands of followers.
He's now using his new platform to educate homebuyers across the country on potentially lifesaving home repairs - treating each home as if it belonged to his family.
Mazza says questions home buyers should ask include:
What is the age of the roofing system and boiler?
Is there asbestos in the home?
Is there or was there a buried oil tank on the property?
Does the home lie in a flood plain?
"These are items you can look at before wasting anyone's time, because if there are red flags flying everywhere you can say OK, let's move onto the next one," he says.
Mazza says people should never skip a home inspection.
"Home Inspector Joe" airs every Wednesday on HGTV.
