World War II heroes from Long Island enjoyed a special visit to their memorial right before the government shutdown.

The 65 veterans flew to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. as part of "Honor Flight."

Honor Flight provides free trips for veterans who physically or financially can't make it to the memorial on their own. It has flown nearly 120,000 World War II veterans to the memorial since it began nine years ago.

The next Honor Flight from Long Island will take off for Washington, D.C. in May.
