For over 30 years, the art of puppetry has been celebrated at UCONN with their own museum open to the public.
The new exhibition "Taking Care: Puppets and their Collectors" recently opened at the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at the University of Connecticut. Puppetry is an art or a combination of arts including sculpture, movement, music, literature, lighting, set design and dance to tell a variety of stories.
There aren't that many puppet museums to begin with. UConn plays a big role in the world of puppetry locally, nationally and internationally. It's also the only institute of higher education that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in puppetry.
Visitors can watch a puppet show, see an exhibition, go to the bookstore and have dinner in the area, making it a prime destination for a fun night out. There's also a tribute to the donors and the collectors of the museum.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday. Puppet performances are featured monthly as well as many other programs.
