A motor vehicle crash sent an SUV into the Hackensack River in Bergen County on Monday night.

Troopers responded at 9:49 p.m. to milepost 66.9 on I-80 in Ridgefield Park. Troopers say a collision occurred between a BMW SUV and a Land Rover SUV, causing the BMW to jump over a concrete barrier and fall into the river below.

After the crash, police say the BMW driver, Zorawar S. Kohli, 32, of Englewood Cliffs, fled on foot and was later found underneath a nearby train and arrested.

He was charged with fourth-degree obstruction, fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight, two counts of assault by auto, and other motor vehicle offenses. He was released pending a future court date.

The driver and passenger of the Land Rover suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

No other injuries were reported at the scene.
