Summer scorcher continues on Long Island

Long Islanders are struggling to beat the heat this week with temperatures in the 90s.

LIPA officials say they've hit a peak usage of 5,552 megawatts, the sixth all-time highest load achieved by the utility. They expect that number to rise as the next few days show no signs of relief.

Residents hit the beach today armed with hats and umbrellas in an effort to keep cool.

State parks and beaches stayed open late to help residents ride out the heat wave.

Temperatures are expected to stay in the 90s through the week.
