15-year-old bicyclist fatally struck by SUV at busy Massapequa Park intersection

A 15-year-old riding a bicycle south on Park Boulevard in Massapequa Park was fatally struck by an SUV in the early evening hours Friday.
Nassau police say the incident happened at the intersection with Sunrise Highway around 6 p.m.
Authorities say the teen was struck by a 2013 Dodge SUV that was traveling eastbound. The driver remained at the crash scene.
No charges were filed against the driver. The victim, who later died at the hospital, has not yet been publicly named.
Multiple people told News 12 that the intersection is known to be busy and dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists.
"I could put myself right in his shoes, because I grew up here, riding my bicycle, 15 years old in that same area,” says Max Elliott, a cycling safety advocate from Copiague. “I've crossed that intersection hundreds of times and…every time you're putting your life in everyone else's hands."
Nassau police say they are investigating what led to the crash.
