One person is dead following a fire at a home in Bayville.
Flames engulfed the home on the corner of Bayville Park Boulevard and Ash Court Monday afternoon.
One person suffered serious burns and was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center.
Neighbors say an elderly couple, who depended on wheelchairs and walkers, lived in the house. When the fire broke out, they saw the elderly man outside on the back lawn with burns to his chest -- yelling out to help his wife who was trapped in the house.
Kevin Moore lives across the street. He says he and his neighbors went to the front of the house to help get her out, but the flames were too intense.
The elderly man is in critical condition at NUMC, and three firefighters were taken to Glen Cove Hospital for minor injuries.
It took 100 firefighters from eight departments more than two hours to put out the flames.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
