Elementary students at P.S. 212 are now able to enjoy their newly renovated library.
A ribbon-cutting was held on Friday to unveil the $540,000 renovation. Officials say it is now a cutting-edge media center.
The space is designed to accommodate a class of 30 students. New features include a new librarian service center, new book shelving, laptops and a smart board.
All of the furniture and lighting in the renovated space is also new. Students say their old library was OK but that this one makes them feel like they can get more done.
Council Member Mark Treyger worked to allocate the funding for the project and was at the school for the celebration. The students also gave him a card to thank him for making the renovation happen.
"I believe as a former teacher and as a council member that when you invest in kids, they succeed. They ask for a shot, and it's our job to provide that opportunity for them to succeed," said Treyger.
Treyger says he is working to see upgrades at the schools in his district to benefit young students.
