Sewell Goodwill seeks donations following fire that damaged inventory

The Sewell Goodwill store in Gloucester County needs donations more than ever after a two-alarm fire just over a week ago.
The fire damaged trailers in the back, the loading dock and the roof.
"Even though the fire happened really outside the building in the loading dock area, the entire store filled up with smoke, so the entire store has smoke damage," says Goodwill Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia President and CEO Mark Boyd.
The smoke damage inside means the roughly 75,000 items inside have to be thrown out.
The money made from selling those items is used to fund programs to help people get back on their feet and gain employment.
The 30 employees at the store have moved to other locations so they can continue working.
Goodwill says it doesn't anticipate reopening the store for another four to six weeks as they fix it and clear out everything that was damaged in the fire. In the meantime, Goodwill is asking the community for help donating to restock the store.
"Beginning tomorrow, we're going to have a special trailer here that will allow us to take donations," Boyd says. "The only thing we really don't take is appliances, tires, mattresses. We take almost everything else."
Goodwill says its much-needed items include clothing and housewares. Donations can be dropped off at the Sewell location or other Goodwill donation drop-offs.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
