Police arrest 18-year-old accused of shooting at officers during graffiti arrest

Police say an 18-year-old has been arrested and charged with attempted murder of a police officer.
The shots were fired at officers responding to a graffiti incident Sunday in the Bronx. Messiah Nantwi was arrested Feb. 21.
Police say three officers were on patrol when they saw two men spray-painting graffiti on Elton Avenue.
The officers approached the men, who took off running. An officer was able to grab Nantwi, who allegedly tried to fight him off near the intersection of East 153rd Street and Third Avenue.
Police say Nantwi pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired at least three times at the officers.
Officers returned fire, striking Nantwi multiple times. Nantwi was taken to the hospital in critical condition following the shooting.
Police say they are still searching for the second suspect.
