The omicron COVID-19 variant is creeping closer to Connecticut after multiple people tested positive in New York.
At least five cases have been reported. The first case is a 67-year-old woman from Suffolk County-- who traveled to South Africa and is vaccinated. Two other cases were confirmed in Queens, another in Brooklyn, and another within the five boroughs.
The New York cases are in addition to a Minnesota man-- who attended an anime convention in Manhattan in late November and tested positive.
Officials are now urging anyone who attended that convention to get tested.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul says the best defense against omicron is to get vaccinated or get a booster shot.
Latest state data in Connecticut shows there have been no confirmed cases of omicron currently.
But doctors say it's only a matter of time until it starts circulating in the Nutmeg state.
