Gov. Kathy Hochul's newly formed task force that is targeting illegal guns met for the first time on Wednesday.
The governor was joined by New York City Mayor Eric Adams and other elected officials.
The group includes law enforcement representatives from nine states in the Northeast working together to stop the flow of illegal guns.
The initiative comes as the governor extended the gun violence state of emergency.
Hochul says a major focus of the task force will be to find out where the illegal guns are coming from, where they're going and how to stop them.
Adams say he's also doing his part to end gun violence, which includes checkpoints and increasing police patrols.
