Nassau confirms 13 new swine flu cases
The Nassau County Department of Health has confirmed 13 new cases of the H1N1 virus.
Eight of the confirmations are students attending Memorial Junior High School in Valley Stream. The school has been closed until Tuesday in anticipation of mass student absenteeism.
The other cases include a 4-year-old from Freeport who has been hospitalized after falling ill May 11. The child and his family had recently traveled to Mexico.
The remaining four cases attend other schools in the Valley Stream School District.
Health officials are reminding residents to practice proper hygiene and avoid contact with any sick people. Ill residents are advised to stay home from work or school and limit contact with others.
