Mount Vernon students, parents plead for help with dangerous school crossings

Parents in Mount Vernon are pleading for help with school street crossings in their community, where they say dangerous situations are unfolding on a daily basis.
At a recent city council meeting, parents requested a crossing guard be put into place on Gramatan Avenue to assist with the chaos that comes with school dismissal.
Students at the STEAM Academy say cars often do not yield to them when they are crossing.
Parents describe a 15-minute period of utter confusion when school lets out, and say the cars speeding through intersections right out front are not helping.
