The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating a Monday drive-by shooting in front of a synagogue in Bed-Stuy.
Police say the incident happened as someone drove by the synagogue on Spencer Street in a black SUV. According to police, the vehicle drove up the road and struck a door with a BB gun pellet, cracking the glass on the door.
An 18-year-old dressed in traditional Jewish attire was hit in the neck, officers say.
A witness told News 12 there was more than one person in the SUV at the time of the shooting and said they were laughing as the BB gun was fired. The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit is taking over the investigation to determine if this is considered a hate crime.
The incident comes as the NYPD reports six hate crime incidents across the city this week alone and 66 hate crime incidents for the year so far.
