Husband charged in death of terminally ill wife
A man has been charged in the death of his terminally ill wife after police found the woman dead in the couple?s Roslyn home Tuesday night.
According to detectives, officers responded to 22 Fernwood Lane in the Flower Hill section of Roslyn after receiving a concerned call from the attorney of the husband and wife homeowners. Lucila Sham, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband Rajasekar, 68, was also hospitalized. Police say both had cuts on their bodies.
According to neighbors, the woman was suffering from cancer. Some neighbors are calling the death a mercy killing. ?The law does not recognize mercy killings,? Det. Sgt. Richard Laursen says. ?This is an intentional act and someone lost their life."
Rajasekar Sham has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death.
