An injured bird is recovering after getting tangled in fishing lines in Stony Brook.
The injured cormorant was seen by a birdwatcher who contacted authorities.
"He had a hook in his mouth, hook in his wing,” says Frankie Floridian, of Strong Island Animal Rescue. "He went to Sweetbriar. They took the hook out of the arm today while I was there, and then they were able to do the surgery and get it out of his throat."
The species is known to dive deep into the water when hunting for food.
Local animal rescue volunteers brought the bird to Best Friends Veterinary Care of Nesconset.
News 12 is told that the bird will be released back into the wild later this week once it starts eating again.
