Gilgo Beach bodies case featured on '48 Hours'
The serial killer investigation at Gilgo Beach that has kept Long Islanders on edge since December was featured on national television tonight.
Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer has reportedly told "48 Hours Mystery" that detectives are making progress in the investigation of nine confirmed, and possibly 10, deaths in the Gilgo Beach area.
Another part of the mystery is the disappearance of Shannan Gilbert in Oak Beach more than a year ago. The search for the Jersey City woman initially led police to the first set of human remains.
A publicist for the hour-long news program on CBS says that Oak Beach doctor Peter Hackett admitted to them that he called Gilbert's mother to offer his help. Gilbert's family has accused Hackett of calling them right after she went missing to say that she had stayed with him for a night and was OK.
In the past, Hackett had vehemently denied the accusation to News 12 Long Island.
